Most people imagine a first session as either a deep emotional flood or an awkward interview. In reality, good therapy usually begins somewhere in the middle: structured enough to feel safe, flexible enough to feel human.
Your therapist will likely explain confidentiality and its limits, ask what brought you in, and begin mapping goals with you. You do not need a polished narrative. Many clients start with a sentence like, “I am tired of feeling this way,” and that is enough to begin.
At One Four Counseling, we also want you to understand logistics—how telehealth works, what insurance verification looks like, and what homework (if any) might support your week. Questions are welcome; clarity is part of care.
If you are unsure whether therapy is the right fit, a free 15-minute consultation can answer practical questions before you commit to a full session.
